Kary McIlwain steps down after 16 years

CHICAGO — Y&R has named John Fraser president of its Chicago agency, replacing Kary McIlwain, who is moving into the role of non-executive chairman.

McIlwain has worked at Y&R for 26 years, both in New York and Chicago. She took up her current role as president of Y&R Chicago in 1999. She will work with Fraser to ensure a smooth transition, the company said in a statement.

Fraser joins from mcgarrybowen Chicago, where he worked as chief operating officer, group managing director, for the past three years. Prior to mcgarrybowen, he co-founded marketing firm Brand Team Partners, and softdrink Rosa’s Horchata.

Earlier in his career, Fraser held roles at various agencies, including FCB Global, Leo Burnett, New Ventures and Bayer Bess Vanderwarker.
