Wins this week: British Gas, Absolut Vodka, River Island

British Gas: win for MediaCom
British Gas: win for MediaCom

One of the biggest media reviews finally came to an end at the end of last week after British Gas appointed MediaCom to its £55m account.

British Gas’ media account has moved to MediaCom from Carat, which had held the account since 2002. MediaCom will work on the British Gas, Hive, Dyno and Local Heroes brands from 1 December, for at least three years. British Gas kicked off the review in March.

Absolut Vodka has awarded its global creative account to Bartle Bogle Hegarty London after a competitive pitch. Sid Lee was the incumbent but did not repitch.

River Island has appointed ODD London as its lead global creative agency after a competitive pitch. The high street retailer previously used Studio Boulevard. Mindshare, River Island’s media agency, was unaffected by the review.

HMV has chosen R.O.Eye as its digital marketing agency to reach niche audiences online, after a competitive pitch. R.O.Eye will help the entertainment retailer target online fan communities to promote HMV "Steelbook" exclusives – brand new releases and re-released classic films on Blu-Ray in commemorative tins, featuring bonuses such as extra footage.

There is no incumbent agency, as this is a newly created brief.

E2Exchange, the community of entrepreneurs, has appointed MBA to run its social media without a pitch. MBA will provide strategy and counsel for E2Exchange for social media activity across the business, as well as actively managing their social channels and communities. There is no incumbent social media agency for the five-year-old group, whose honorary president is Richard Branson.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau has appointed TVC Group to create a digital campaign to reduce the number of people driving without car insurance. The MIB previously worked with Milestone Creative.
