WhatsApp preaches message privacy in first U.S. campaign

The messaging app, owned by Meta, compares unencrypted texts to receiving opened mail.

SMS text messaging is the messaging service used on most mobile devices, but just because it's familiar doesn’t make it safe.

WhatsApp, the Meta-owned messaging platform, launched its first-ever U.S. campaign that educates people on the importance of end-to-end encryption.

In the spot "Doubt Delivered," a delivery man drops off opened mail to unsuspecting people. Everyone is confused — and some even angry — that their privacy is being compromised.

"Why are you delivering mail to me that’s open?" a man asks. The delivery man replies, "Well don’t worry, nobody read them." 

The delivery man informs them that they should be just as concerned about SMS messaging as their opened mail. "Your texts are open," he says.
