Watch: US government spokesman halts briefing to ask if reporter is playing Pokémon Go

'You're playing the Pokémon thing right there, aren't you?' he asks during ISIS report

US State Department spokesman John Kirby has interrupted a press conference to check the progress of a journalist who was playing Pokémon Go.

Kirby cut off in the middle of a sentence while discussing the terrorist group Islamic State to ask the unnamed reporter, who appeared to be playing with his phone: "You're playing the Pokémon thing right there, aren't you?"

The reporter admitted he was "keeping an eye" on the game.

Pressed by Kirby later about whether he was successful in catching one of the virtual beasts, the reporter replied in the negative, citing the bad signal. Adopting a sarcastic tone, the spokesman duly apologized.
