For week of shark-themed programming, channel focuses on conservation of the misunderstood ocean-dwellers
Every year, humans kill 100 million sharks. Pop culture is quick to villify sharks in movies and TV shows — and even music. (Admit: when you see a shark on TV, you hear the theme to "Jaws.")
Now, a documentary from Volkswagen in partnership with Discovery Channel by Deutsch LA for Discovery's "Shark Week" series sets out to use tunes to help sharks.
Academy Award-nominated composer J. Ralph and marine biologist Luke Tipple created a score that make sharks seem majestic and even fragile. The final composition was recorded at the legenary Abbey Road Studios in London by a 151-piece orchestra. A companion website SharksReScored.com has the full six-minute composition.
