Virgin Media has appointed former British Airways marketer Kerris Bright as its CMO, after leaving the post vacant for 16 months.

Bright has most recently worked in private equity, but is best known for overseeing the ‘To Fly, To Serve’ campaign as head of global marketing for British Airways. She has held senior marketing roles at bathroom company Ideal Standard, manufacturing firm Akzo Nobel and Unilever.

Bright will oversee a marketing department with an expanded remit that will now include data, insight and analytics for the first time. She will report into chief operating officer Dana Strong and will join the company on 19 January. A Virgin spokesman told Marketing that Bright’s team size will be determined by her direction when she assumes her role.

Bright’s appointment comes 16 months after former CMO Jeff Dodds briefly changed roles following Liberty Global's acquisition of Virgin Media. No replacement was appointed and Dodds subsequently left the company in April last year to become CEO of Tele2 Netherlands.

Virgin Media’s director of brand and marketing, Richard Larcombe, has since overseen marketing activities. Virgin’s spokesman said Larcombe will remain in place, working alongside Kerris Bright. There will be no change in his duties. Larcombe was included in Marketing's #Power100 list last year.
