Venus Williams and Blue Shield of California shine a light on gender bias in healthcare

The campaign, created by BSSP, features women asking what it takes for them to be heard by medical professionals.

Gender bias in patient care often leaves women without proper medical treatment, resulting in dire consequences.

Blue Shield of California brought attention to this issue in its spot, "Do You Hear Me?" featuring tennis star Venus Williams. The film, directed by Amandla Barakaand, shows women asking if they need to be "more educated, thinner, older, white or just not a woman" to have their medical concerns taken seriously.

Williams is particularly committed to the cause after being diagnosed with auto-immune disease, Sjögren's Syndrome.
