US-based IT services company Cognizant has agreed to acquire independent, full-service digital agency, Zone.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2017, subject to closing conditions. Financial details were not disclosed.

Established in 2000, Zone is headquartered in London. Its client list includes adidas, Aviva, Deutsche Telekom, Maersk, Marks & Spencer, and Unilever.

With Zone, Cognizant will aim to expand its capacity for delivering digital interactive solutions to a broader base of C-suite decision-makers throughout the UK and Europe.

"Effective digital strategy and implementation is mission critical for business today," James Freedman, founder and executive chairman, Zone, said. "By joining Cognizant, we can significantly enhance the depth and breadth of our offering to better serve the needs of both existing and future clients in the UK and beyond."

For Cognizant, combining with Zone will strengthen its end-to-end capabilities and enable it to provide more localised access for clients in the UK and across Europe, Santosh Thomas, president, global growth markets at Cognizant, said.

"This acquisition will be another powerful step forward as we grow our capabilities in the digital interactive space. We look forward to welcoming Zone's digital specialists and their expertise to our team," he concluded.

Three days prior to this announcement, however, Zone's chief creative officer Daniel Harvey revealed that he had left the agency to join "LinkedIn for creatives" startup, The Dots as head of product design.

Over the last give years I’ve spent a lot of time volunteering and working with a variety of groups. Organizations like Creative Equals, Hyper Island, Apps for Good, and more," Harvey wrote. "What each group had in common was a desire to make the creative industries a better, more diverse place. Working at The Dots means my day job and volunteer efforts finally align 100%. I know these values run deep in the company because I’ve known The Dots chief executive Pip Jamieson for a few years now."
