Hoare has been given newly created role of vice-chairman.

Toby Hoare, previously chief executive of J Walter Thompson Europe and chairman of JWT UK, has been named vice-chairman of the newly merged Wunderman Thompson.

Hoare's name was absent when Wunderman Thompson announced its UK line-up last month, with the new team dominated by Wunderman staff. However, in this newly created position, Hoare will report to global chief executive Mel Edwards and be based in London.

Wunderman Thompson said Hoare will "help redefine creativity across all of our products and capabilities, including commerce and data… and help with strategic acquisitions and continue to drive the overall integration of the agency". He will also continue to have global client responsibilities.

Edwards said: "Toby has a proven track record of successfully forging long-standing relationships. Coupled with his knowledge and expertise, this makes him one of the strongest client counsellors in the industry."

Hoare added: "This is about bringing together the best of two outstanding companies to create a truly compelling and differentiated offer in the industry. I’m looking forward to working with the team to help deliver this for our clients and people."
