Tim Burton: asks fans to submit plot lines via Twitter

Film director Tim Burton has asked fans to help build the story for his latest project by posting lines on the microblogging website, Twitter.

Burton has called on his Twitter fans to help move the story along for the character Stainboy, his watercolour super-hero.

Followers are invited to write the next line in Stainboy’s story, using the hashtag #BurtonStory. The best tweets are selected at the end of the day.

The project is explained on the dedicated website, BurtonStory.com, as a "cadavre exquis" or "exquisite corpse". It is a technique used to collectively tell a story, where each contributor adds to the plot in sequence, based on the last line revealed.

Burton started the project off with the line "Stainboy, using his obvious expertise, was called in to investigate mysterious glowing on the gallery floor".

Since the director kick-started the story his Twitter followers have picked up Stainboy's tale, causing the character to fight with the "goo" to save his life.

The project ends on 6 December, coinciding with an exhibition by Burton at the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff).
