Things we like: Wallpaper* turns 20 and the UK gets a new DJ-free digital station

Wallpaper* is marking its 20th anniversary with a pull-out birthday message designed by Thomas Heatherwick, plus Union Jack, the DJ-free digital station, hits the airwaves.

Playful cover from Wallpaper*

Wallpaper* is celebrating turning 20 with a front cover that can be pulled out to reveal a birthday message created by renowned designer Thomas Heatherwick.

The cover image references the first-ever issue cover, which was designed by Gucci’s then creative director Tom Ford.

This edition was designed by Gucci’s current creative director Alessandro Michele. Heatherwick has provided a special kit for readers to make their own version too. The bumper issue, the biggest in the title’s history, has 508 pages, including 230 pages of ads.

New DJ-free radio station

The team behind Absolute Radio has launched a DJ-free digital station called Union Jack, which allows listeners to decide what music is played via an app.

Those tuning in will be able to choose from a playlist limited to British artists, ranging from Ed Sheeran and Coldplay to The Beatles and The Who.

The new nationwide station grows the Jackfm brand in the UK, with stations already available in Oxford, Surrey and Portsmouth.

...And one thing we don't ...

Facebook censoring images

Facebook has rightly backed down after it removed the "napalm girl" picture – which shows children, including a naked girl, running down a road after a napalm attack on their village during the Vietnam War – from its site.

Facebook first pulled the image, taken by Nick Ut, from thriller writer Tom Egeland’s feed because of the site’s nudity policy. The same happened to newspaper Aftenposten, after which it published an open letter on its front page accusing Facebook of abusing its power.

Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg was among those who also found their post had been taken down by the site.
