The Sun has signed former England and Arsenal star, Ian Wright, as the main presenter of its football show, The Sun FC.

Sun FC is The Sun’s new football channel being made exclusively available to users who pay to access the Sun’s newly paywalled website.

From 17 August, Wright will present his weekly Saturday Sun FC show, which will be available to view on all platforms from 6.30am.

This will be followed in the week, Monday to Friday from 19 August, when he will endeavour to "tackle the day's biggest football stories" from 4.30pm.

He joins former Sky Sports News and Al Jazeera Sport presenter, Samantha Johnson, who will present The Sun FC daily news bulletin.

Also included in the new football package will be near-live clips of all 380 Barclays Premier League games, soon after the final whistle and hours before the games are broadcast elsewhere.

Wright said: "I am really happy to be involved in the exciting new football package from The Sun and can’t wait to get started. The Sun has always led the way with its sports coverage and I am thrilled to be presenting Sun FC."

Wright will continue to present his 'Rock ‘N’ Roll Football' show live on Absolute Radio every Saturday.

David Dinsmore, editor of The Sun, said: "The Sun has always been the home of unbeatable football coverage. Ian is a fantastic broadcaster and an incredibly popular columnist, who has been a huge part of Sun Sport since 2007.

"His unique and engaging style will bring unrivalled insight, analysis and humour to complement The Sun's exclusive Premier League footage. It  will be appointment viewing for all football fans."

Under chief executive Mike Darcey, News UK launched Sun+ as a "new world of digital entertainment" in August. Sun+ members have access to The Sun’s exclusive news, showbiz, features and sport coverage for £2 a week.

The 2013-2014 Premier League begins with 10 fixtures on the weekend of the 17 August. Sun+ members also receive offers ranging from freebies, deals and promotions worth more than £200 as well as perks which include money off at top High Street stores, free apps and ebooks, cinema tickets and more.
