A new 15-second TV ad for cider brand Strongbow features Sir Patrick Stewart. The "Star Trek" and "X-Men" actor is not the star of the ad as he is hidden behind an award for the best tasting cider at the 2014 World Beer Championships.
The Droga5 produced ad continues the agency's self-referential and self-deprecating humor used in ads for Newcastle brand beer, also owned by Heineken.
The television spot is a continuation of the alcoholic beverage's "Cider at Its Bestest" campaign. This time, showing that cider over ice upstages a celebrated thespian.
Stewart will also play a part in future ads, adding, "We had a great time filming the spots, and I'm looking forward to my continued support of the campaign in the months ahead."
The ad makes its television debuts on St. Patrick's day, when according to Forbes, America will spend nearly $250 million on beer.
