Star Wars characters face off in a political ad series spoof from stock media marketplace Pond5. Created entirely from the stock media company’s video and audio inventory, the campaign cleverly showcases the range and flexibility of its catalog by combining two of the most topical themes of the season — the presidential race of 2016 and the upcoming release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
Since the spots were created entirely using stock footage, no familiar faces appear, and some of the spaceships look oddly shaped. Still, the spirit of the force is strong.
"Let the Wookiee Win" presents a Clintonesque argument for experienced leadership with a decent Obi-Wan impression. Sure, Chewbacca owes Han that life debt, but Solo’s really vice-chancellor material, so the Wookiee leads the ticket.
Fitting for a Reagan spoof, "Elect the Empire" promises a new morning across the galaxy. Brave stormtroopers and a happy twi’lek round out the Imperial propaganda.
An Ackbar impersonator proclaims "It’s Not a Trap," lauding the accomplishments of Princess Leia and Lando Calrissian. Organa has apparently thrown in her lot with a different smuggler, or maybe Lando really has gone straight. Tibanna gas mines are lucrative business, after all.
The most unlikely coupling forms "The Green Party," an alliance between those forest-dwelling Luddites the Ewoks and the droid-snatching desert tinkerers, the Jawas. It’s obvious who’s in charge, though, since the campaign slogan is "Yub nub!" without the faintest peep of "Utinni!" to be heard.
And in what must be a brutal primary, "The Droids You’re Looking For" goes negative, tearing into the other artificial candidates. I guess the opposition didn’t look too closely at 3PO’s birth certificate.
