Save The Observer campaign takes off on Twitter

LONDON - A campaign to save The Observer newspaper, which faces possible closure by the Guardian Media Group, has racked up almost 2,000 followers in two days.

Launched by a copywriter and digital marketer, Callum Saunders, the Savetheobserver Twitter feed has been publicising details of the evolving story on the fate of the Observer following the news leaked at the weekend that Guardian Media Group is considering its future.

A Facebook Save the Observer group has also been launched and this has signed up more than 2,300 supporters.

One of the options GMG chief executive Carolyn McCall and her team are looking at is the closure of the paper.

Other options under consideration include turning it into a weekly magazine and slimming it down.
