Samsung's top marketer at its mobile division has reportedly resigned just two months into the job.
Kim Seok-pil was overseeing the upcoming launch of the Galaxy S6, the company’s latest flagship phone, but has resigned due to illness, according to the Wall Street Journal
He was named head of strategic marketing for the Korean firm’s mobile business in December, replacing incumbent DJ Lee as part of Samsung’s annual management reshuffle.
He will be replaced by Lee Sang-chul who is currently overseeing Samsung in Russia, according to the report.
The moves suggest Samsung’s mobile arm has yet to return to full health. The company reported its biggest drop in annual profits in three years, largely due to tanking mobile phone sales. It was thought DJ Lee's departure in December was connected to the firm's weak mobile performance.
Net profits between October and December fell 27% to 23.4 trillion won ($21 billion), down from 30.5 trillion won the year prior. Mobile sales fell 21% to 107.41 trillion won ($98 billion), largely due to local competition in developing markets such as China and India.
Samsung is expected to launch the next Galaxy S device at its "Unpacked" event on March 1.
