Saatchi's New Directors' Showcase: the soundtrack

Over the past 25 years, Saatchi & Saatchi's New Directors' Showcase has done more than introduce adland to the hottest auteurs, it's amassed a pretty decent soundtrack.

Music videos have been a staple of the New Directors’ Showcase since it began in 1990. Daniel Klienman, one of the first break-out stars to feature in the showcase, started his career shooting music videos for Fleetwood Mac and Madonna.

But the lack of opportunities for new directors to shoot big commercials (there were no traditional ads in the 2015 reel) means promos have become an even bigger part of the showcase over time.

Music videos, which tend to have small budgets but a lot of room for creativity, are the ideal medium for burgeoning directors.

Still, a talented director cannot make a dire song sound better, so kudos to Saatchi & Saatchi for finding so many examples where the track lives up to the visuals.

In honour of the fine work put in by Saatchi & Saatchi over the years, Campaign has made a playlist of its favourite tracks from The New Directors’ Showcase.
