Rory Sutherland 'goes back to school' for Digital Day

Ogilvy's vice chairman was among many of the UK's leading industry professionals who today visited schools to give students an insight into digital.

We visited participating school City of London Academy in Islington to find out more about the initiative.

Students began their day with a "virtual event" brought to them by Visualise, where they were able to watch a live stream of Rory Sutherland, through VR headsets.

In a live brief format they were then set three challenges, provided by sponsors Standard Life, Vodafone and Sony Music, where they were given the chance to develop or launch different products, following the process through from conception to finish.

Winners are able to secure a cash prize for their school, as well as various tours to digital companies. They are also in with a chance at winning the Digital Day 2015 Winners trophy.

The entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts and there is possibility that winning ideas may be impleted by the sponsor brands.

Digital Day coincides with news from BIMA (the British Interactive Media Association) which today announces the findings of new research into the UK’s digital industry, warning that the UK economy will lose billions of pounds if the digital skills gap is not urgently addressed.
