The Recommendation Engine: Work & Co.'s Aleks Gryczon

When she's not designing digital products, Aleks Gryczon can be found at the local indie movie house, on Instagram or basking in the fog (machine).

The Recommendation Engine is Campaign US' weekly feature in which we learn about the media young people in the ad industry are currently consuming. This week, we get to know Aleks Gryczon, associate design director at Brooklyn-based digital product design and development company Work & Co.

What I'm watching

I just saw "Moonlight" at the Nitehawk in Williamsburg and was blown away. This cinema's great because it's like a modern drive-in that lets you order food and cocktails. A lot of recent LGBT films —like "The Imitation Game" or "The Danish Girl"—have been heavy-handed. "Moonlight" is the opposite. It's touching and powerful but made with a lot of restraint.

What I'm listening to

The past few weeks I've been into John Carpenter's albums "Lost Themes" I and II. I saw him live a few months ago and it was incredible to hear those synths live and loud. The fog machine was on the whole time, they played scenes from all his movies, and he never took his sunglasses off. He's a badass. I'm also going to see "Thee Oh Sees" soon. They put on such a good show because people always crowdsurf and the energy is off-the-charts.

What I'm reading

I just got the new Jonathan Lethem book, "A Gambler's Anatomy." I'm not too far along with it yet, but his early books "Motherless Brooklyn" and "Fortress of Solitude" are so good that my hopes are high. My Kindle broke recently so all my reading has been on the iPhone.

Who I'm following

A few of my favorite Instagram feeds are @chillwildlife, @norbertthdog, and @studiotaco. Some friends and I have a group chat on Insta called "DILP"—Dogs I'd Like to Pet—which is a daily highlight. I really like horses (my next tattoo) but haven't found any good feeds yet.
