Quiksilver partners with rum brands for California-themed pop-up in Leeds

Surfing brand Quiksilver is bringing a slice of California to Leeds, designing a pop-up rum bar alongside premium rum brands Appleton Estate, Wray & Nephew and Gosling's.

The concept, Trader Dan's Surf Shack, created by the Hedonist Project, will open at the end of June and will be themed around California and Hawaii, with the aim of creating an easy going environment for guests. The bar, created will offer eclectic party tunes bringing back nineties nostalgia, while Quiksilver has devised the interior design. 

Jamaican-based Appleton Estate and Wray & Nephew rum brands and Gosling's, the Bermuda rum, will offer a wide ranging drinks selection. An extensive cocktail menu with original flavours will also be available, including Fruity Mai Tai with Rooibos Tea and the Fiery Hurricane. A food menu has been designed to complement the drinks list and surf theme.

Bruce Lerman, director at Hedonist Drinks, which runs the Hedonist Project, said: "After the success of the Rum Shack last year we took note that Leeds really does love rum. This year we wanted to try and do something a little bit different to the Rum Shack and Trader Dan's Surf Shack was born. For this concept we are joining California with Hawaii to create a lazy easy going environment."

Plans for a Jamaican Independence Day Weekender are also in the pipeline, featuring DJ’s, food and a  party at a secret location, while further events include a hedonistic celebration of Bermuda’s Independence Day, as well as Leeds very first Rum Safari, which will take guests on a tour of the city’s finest rum joints. 

Trader Dan’s Surf Shack is The Hedonist Projects fifth consecutive pop-up bar in a row and the third to reside at their now-permanent home at 156 Lower Briggate, Leeds.
