Brand makes first in-game appearance since 2000 for the Dew-juice-caffeine combo

An odd puppy-monkey-baby hybrid inspires a night of partying for a trio of men in Mountain Dew’s first Super Bowl commercial in 15 years. The 30-second spot, scheduled to air in the first quarter, promotes Mtn Dew Kickstart, a dew, juice and caffeine combo.

In the commercial, created by BBDO New York, three guys chill on a couch, when the diapered creature suddenly appears with a bucket full of the Kickstart, shaking a rattle, and chanting "puppy-monkey-baby." It lovingly licks the face of one of the men and finally gets the three to get up to dance and follow it out the door.

The "Puppybabymonkey" spot introduces a new flavor lineup that includes Midnight Grape, Watermelon, Blueberry Pomegranate and Blood Orange and ends with the message, "Three awesome things combined." The ad kicks off a new campaign, "It All Starts With a Kick," which will also include digital, social and out-of-home advertising.

Last year, Mountain Dew released a 90-second spot for Kickstart during the pre-game show that had a similar theme of energizing a group of guys’ night, but without the strange hybrid character. The drink managed to get them and an entire room of furniture, complete with a mounted deer head, to get up and dance.

Mtn Dew Kickstart made its debut in 2013 and has generated $300 million annually in sales.
