Prettybird Culver City took home the Gold Pencil Cultural Driver award for its work on the music video for Beyonce’s single "Formation" at the One Show Wednesday night at Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan. This is the first time the Cultural Driver award has been presented, which recognizes influential marketing that has had an impact on pop culture.
Host Daveed Diggs, who originated the role of the Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson in both the off-Broadway and Broadway runs of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical "Hamilton," also presented the Silver Pencil to 180LA Santa Monica for "Boost Your Voice" for Boost Mobile and the Bronze Pencil Fitzgerald & Co Atlanta and Uproxx Studios Los Angeles for "Buy Back the Block" for Checkers & Rally's.
The Green Pencil, which recognizes environmentally conscious work, went to We Believers New York for "Edible Six Pack Rings" for Saltwater Brewery, an entry that also won a Gold Pencil in the CSR category.
Ogilvy New York won the Gold Pencil for Branded Entertainment for the Olivia Munn film "Lifeline" for Qualcomm Snapdragon. The agency also won the Gold Pencil in Design for "The Refugee Nation" for Amnesty International. Ogilvy & Mather Chicago took home the Gold Pencil for Public Relations for "Zero Minutes of Fame" for The Brady Foundation.
"The Swedish Number" for the Swedish Tourist Association by INGO Stockholm and Grey won the Gold Pencil in the Direct category, and "We’re the Superhumans" for Channel 4/Rio Olympics by Leland Music London, 4creative London, Blink London and Factory/London won the Gold Pencil for Moving Image Craft.
The Print & Outdoor Gold Pencil went to "Meet Graham" for the Transport Accident Commission (Victoria) by Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, and the Gold Pencil in Responsive Environments went to "Kunstmuseum Basel Light Frieze" for the Construction and Transport Department of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, Städtebau & Architektur, Hochbauamt by iart ag Basel and Christ & Gantenbein Basel.
The One Show recognizes the best work of the last year in more than a dozen categories. Winners in the remaining disciplines will be announced by Jessica Williams at a ceremony on Friday, May 12, along with special awards like Best of Show, Penta Pencil, Agency of the Year, Independent Agency of the Year, Production Company of the Year, Network of the Year, Client of the Year and Holding Company of the Year.
