Wood, author and star of the Channel 4 TV Walking The Nile, gave a 40-minute talk, followed by a Q&A session. He discussed his nine-month, record-breaking expedition with approximately 100 guests.
Pernod Ricard-owned Chivas Whisky complemented the event with a ‘Walking The Nile’ cocktail, made with the brand’s 18-year-old drink. Before the evening began, Chivas hosted a training session with all of Mr Fogg’s staff to teach them about the whisky’s history.
Mr Fogg’s is a creation of the Victorian home of fictional adventurer Phileas Fogg. It is owned by Inception Group, whose venues also include they newly-launched Brazilian bar Cocobananas and Americana dance saloon Beaver Lodge.
Simon Allison, group marketing manager of Inception Group, told Event: "Given that Mr Fogg, was famed for his 80-day adventure around the world, and that the bar is very much designed on what his drawing room would have looked like on his return - stuffed with artefacts and trinkets he picked up on his travels - I think that having fellow explorers host events, and tell tales of their journeys here, is a great fit for the brand.
"It complements the underlying theme of the bar perfectly, and is something that appeals to the audience that Mr Fogg's attracts. Regular talks by adventurers and explorer types is definitely something we are keen to make a regular occurrence, especially after the success of this event."
