Whisky brand Glenfiddich selected agency Captive Minds to present a food and drink event with salmon smoker H Forman & Son last Thursday (13 November), which celebrated family-run, heritage businesses.

Held at The Gallery at Forman’s Fish Island in east London, the evening gave approximately 140 guests the chance to meet and greet modern-day descendants from the Glenfiddich and H Forman & Son families and sample their latest offering.

The whisky brand’s Kirsten Grant Miekle and managing director of the fishmonger Lance Forman took part in an ‘Evening with’-style presentation on the importance of family in the lead-up to Christmas, as well as taking questions from the floor. Canapés were provided by Forman’s catering service and included smoked salmon bilinis with caper salsa, minute steak and chunky chip with béarnaise and butternut arancini with sage crème fraiche.

The evening culminated in a ‘salmon versus whisky race’, which saw 2008 World Bartender champion Tony Adams and Guinness World Record holder for speed-carving salmon Darren Matson go head to head. Matson won the competition, carving the fish quicker than Adams created three cocktails from the evening’s menu.

Julian Staveley, client services director at Captive Minds, told Event: "This event is the latest in a series that partners Glenfiddich – a family run business founded in 1887 – with several of the nation’s other family-run, heritage businesses. Like Forman’s, the chosen partners all have relevance or relationships with Glenfiddich and all combine age-old family resilience with modern thinking and modern business initiatives.

"To find elegant ways to tell their wonderful stories, Captive Minds is marrying intimacy with creativity, ensuring each event creates world-class content for distribution across media and brand channels."
