Peroni Nastro Azzurro has partnered online supermarket Ocado to run a beta launch of its first smart device.

The beer brand is in the process of recruiting 100 existing Ocado customers to test the Press for Peroni app and provide feedback to Peroni, which will help inform the brand’s Internet of Things marketing strategy.

Press for Peroni, which runs via an iPhone app, "makes shopping for Peroni even quicker and easier", according to the company.

The device is designed to attach to fridges and, when pressed, will add a pack of Peroni to a consumer’s order on the Ocado site.

Earlier this year, Domino’s gave away emergency "push for pizza" buttons as part of a PR stunt. The Bluetooth device enabled consumers who had registered online to order pizzas at a press of the button. While only 50 buttons were distributed, the simplicity of the device garnered significant media attention.

It is understood that this is the first time Ocado has worked with a brand to trial an IoT device.
