Old Navy teaches 'Portlandia' stars to dress better in new holiday ads

Banished to the kids' table, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein take style tips from fashion-forward tots

"They look colorful, and festive. We look like furniture," complains actress Carrie Brownstein, admiring another couple dressed in Old Navy clothes in the company’s latest holiday ad. The two-minute film from the retailer and agency Chandelier Creative features Brownstein and "Portlandia" co-star Fred Armisen being pushed to the kid’s table at a Christmas party for wearing "drab" clothes.

The two are given sound advice from a pair of children who tell them that if they want to hang out with the rest of the adults, or "the big kids," they’ll have to go to Old Navy and buy some clothes that "scream holidays." The spot is the first in several short films in which Brownstein and Armisen learn how to become trendier dressers that will be released this month. A 30-second edited cut of the first short film will make its broadcast and cable TV debut on December 6.
