Katherine Whitton: The marketer is leaving due to Barclaycard's restructure

Welcome to Campaign's weekly round-up of the hires, departures and promotions across the industry.

Katherine Whitton, chief marketing officer at Barclaycard, is leaving the brand this summer after eight years. Whitton's departure comes as part of a restructure that will involve the establishment of marketing teams for the brand's UK card issuing and business solutions businesses, with a separate team overseeing brand management capability development.

Alex Naylor, who has been at Barclaycard since 2011 and was previously director, marketing communications planning, development and digital engagement, has been appointed as marketing director for UK cards. A business solutions marketing director, meanwhile, will be appointed in due course. Barclaycard declined to comment on Whitton’s next move.

Vogue UK has hired Edward Enninful as its first male editor-in-chief to run the Conde Nast magazine, replacing the long-serving Alexandra Shulman. Enninful has been creative and fashion director of American magazine W since 2011 and will become editor of British Vogue from 1 August.

Geometry Global has promoted UK chief executive Sarah Todd to a global role and brought in M&C Saatchi's shopper marketing chief Michelle Whelan as her replacement. Todd will now assume global responsibilities as global client leader and head of shopper marketing EMEA.

MullenLowe Group UK has appointed José Miguel Sokoloff, global president of the network's creative council, to the additional post of chief creative officer. Sokoloff has been filling in as interim UK chief creative officer since the departure of Dave Henderson in September last year. He has now permanently relocated to the UK from Colombia.

Poke has promoted Tom Bayliss, its head of client services, to the role of managing director, to run Publicis UK's digital agency on a day-to-day basis. He will report to Nick Farnhill, co-founder and chief executive of Poke, who was recently appointed chief executive of Publicis London.

News Corp has made Jesse Angelo chief of digital advertising solutions to oversee a new advertising platform expected to launch later this year. Angelo will help coordinate the platform’s development and launch, and serve as its ambassador to the advertising community.  He will continue in his current role as chief executive and publisher of the New York Post.

Kit Altin, head of innovation and global planning director for Procter & Gamble at Leo Burnett Group, is joining The Gate London as chief strategy officer. The appointment completes the line-up of the management team with Jamie Elliott as chief executive and Beri Cheetham as executive creative director.

DigitasLBi has appointed Sameer Modha to the newly-created role of head of data proposition, UK. Modha joins from Mindshare, where he was partner, customer data strategy, leading the agency’s global data strategy function. At DigitasLBi, he is tasked with developing the agency’s data and analytics offer as part of a data-driven approach to marketing, reporting to Fern Miller, chief strategy officer, international. 

Blackwood Seven, the artificial-intelligence media agency, has poached Elliot Parkus from Arena Media to be its first UK managing director.

Possible, WPP’s digital shop, has promoted business director Lizzie Snell to head of client services. She takes on the role immediately and will oversee the agency's growth plans and the team that leads client relationships.

Lida has hired SapientNitro’s Pavel Fernandez as creative director. Before joining SapientNitro, where he was associate creative director, Pavel has worked at agencies including JWT London, DigitasLBi and TMW Unlimited.

Natalie Gross, former chief executive of St Ives-owned digital marketing agency Amaze, is joining Th_nk as part of a new-look management quartet. Th_nk chief executive Tarek Nsier is taking the new role of founding partner and Gross is joining as managing partner. Rick Curtis, Amaze’s chief strategy officer, is also joining Th_nk as a partner.

the7stars has appointed Dom Blacklock to the newly-created role of head of data driven strategy. Blacklock was previously head of campaign management at Dentsu Aegis Network’s programmatic platform Amnet. He starts with immediate effect and will report to owner Jenny Biggam.

Manchester Arndale has appointed Lisa Henderson as head of marketing. Henderson was most recently consumer experience marketing manager for EMEA at footwear company UGG.

Somethin’ Else has hired Chris Skinner, currently executive producer at Absolute Radio, to join its team in the same role. He will oversee many of Somethin’ Else’s current productions for BBC Radio and take a key role in the development of future projects.

RPM has appointed Ruth Henderson as a senior strategist and Laurel Davis as head of creative communications. Henderson was previously at social content agency Redpill, while Davis joins from Ogilvy Brisbane.

Access has appointed Sunny Deo as its new creative director following the retirement of long-standing creative director, Sarah Parker. Deo was previously a freelance creative and has worked at Grey, Leo Burnett, BBDO, OgilvyOne Worldwide and Y&R.

Retail management tech firm Brightpearl has hired ex-Blackberry marketer Anthony Payne as global vice-president of marketing. Most recently, Payne was interim vice-president of marketing for IP intelligence company, PatSnap. Payne will be based in Bristol and will report to chief executive, Derek O’Carroll.

Creative agency Space has promoted Jim Carless to the newly-created role of head of brand experience. Carless, formerly head of client services, is charged with accelerating the growth of the agency’s brand experience proposition across its existing client portfolio.

Ibrar Hussain has joined Manchester-based digital agency e3creative as head of operations from digital agency Building Blocks. The agency has also hired MediaCom’s Dan Bell as head of search.
