On International Women's Day, the health initiative urges women to "Push" to end maternal mortality
In a three-minute film from social impact-focused agency Matter Unlimited, Merck for Mothers tells the story of three pregnant women. After nine months, two give birth to healthy babies, but one dies. "It takes a lot to be a mother. For some, it takes their lives," says the narrator. While the spot is a downer, hope lies in the 10-year, $500 million global health initiative that aims to end maternal mortality. Titled "Push," the message is for expectant mothers to push until the statistic—that nearly 800 women die daily from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth—is a thing of the past.
