Mattel campaign presents Barbie as a learning tool

"Imagine the Possibilities" by BBDO San Francisco and New York shows young girls schooling their elders

Young girls try out professional jobs in the real world in a new hidden-camera campaign for Barbie.

BBDO San Francisco and BBDO New York created the online ad – the agency’s first since winning the creative account for the Barbie brand's parent company, Mattel, earlier this year. In the prank ad, college students file into a classroom to be greeted by a girl, who then begins a lecture. Similar stunts take place at a veterinary surgery, airport and football stadium. At the end of the spot, which is aimed at parents, the young lecturer is shown playing with her Barbies at home as text appears, saying: "When a girl plays with a Barbie, she imagines everything she can become."
