The Arts Council decided that larger organisations such as the National Theatre and the Royal Opera House would suffer a 15% cut of funding over three years, with any extra money going to smaller companies.
"This announcement is wonderful news for us at MJF, and for all our artists and audiences," said MJF artistic director Steve Mead.
"This increase, along with our recently-announced continued support from Manchester City Council and the PRS for Music Foundation, will enable us to achieve the international reputation we believe the music deserves."
The Manchester Jazz Festival takes place at eight venues including Festival Pavilion and St Ann’s Square from 22 – 30 July.
