Consumer electronics brand LG is to activate through the medium of florals at the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show.

The annual event is taking place in London on 24-28 May. LG has teamed up with designer Hay Joung Hwang and landscaper Randle Siddeley to create the horticultural experience.

The LG Smart Garden is inspired by the concept of Intelligent Homes. It aims to demonstrate that technology can be incorporated harmoniously into both the house and the garden, in order to provide functionality and convenience.

Joung Hwang has been inspired by the concept of a minimalist, Scandinavian garden. Bright colours will sit alongside minimalist structures, while multi-stemmed trees will be planted to provide privacy and filter the views from the house.

LG will provide the 'smart' elements of the garden, including the tablets, screens and the research and development required to launch the prototype outdoor space.

Joung Hwang said: "This is, I believe, the first time that LG have sponsored a garden. They are very excited to be involved with such a prestigious event and this is a nice way to showcase some of their emergent technology in a stylish but informal surrounding. The emphasis is very much on the garden, but there will be a couple of ‘toys’ for modern living which give an insight into how we might be using (and caring for) our gardens in the future.

"LG has a long-standing interest and investment in arts and culture, including various global collaborations across fashion, design, music and art and they seemed like an excellent fit for my garden."
