Global marketing director moves to media role at The Craftory, an early-stage investor in consumer brands.

Jamie Swango has left her role as global marketing director at Deliveroo soon after the food-delivery company brought in a marketing chief above her.

Swango has joined The Craftory, an investor in emerging consumer goods brands, as a partner specialising in media strategy for its portfolio companies.

The first and only investment so far is NotCo, a vegan food-technology start-up based in Chile that is bridging molecular science with artificial intelligence to make "real-tasting" vegan milk and mayonnaise.

Swango spent two years at Deliveroo after arriving in January 2017 from Amazon as UK and Ireland marketing director and rose to lead marketing across the 13 countries Deliveroo had entered in Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

In January, Deliveroo appointed Inés Ures as global chief marketing officer, with Swango reporting to her.

Swango told Campaign: "I began speaking with Ernesto [Schmitt] and Elio [Leoni-Sceti] from The Craftory last September and was quickly drawn to their vision and passion. I worked closely with the Deliveroo team to facilitate a seamless transition to Inés, leaving the business on 15 March."

She joined Amazon babycare and household products subsidiary Quidsi in 2012 and relocated from the US to London in 2014, when she became senior manager for Amazon Fashion. Her last role before moving to Deliveroo was head of marketing for Amazon’s one-hour delivery offering Prime Now.

Schmitt, co-founder of The Craftory, said: "We hired Jamie because we were struck by her natural empathy with the entrepreneurial process, combined with her mastery of building digital brands, running ecommerce and insights into Amazon, which no challenger brand can safely ignore."

The Craftory has offices in London and San Francisco.

A Deliveroo spokesperson added: "Jamie will be a huge asset to The Craftory and we wish her the best of luck in her new role."
