ITV seeks agency to handle media planning and buying

ITV: Mindshare is the media incumbent
ITV: Mindshare is the media incumbent

ITV is reviewing its media planning and buying account, putting Mindshare on alert.

The broadcaster has approached a number of agencies and asked them to sign non-disclosure agreements.

Mindshare is the incumbent on the business, which it won in 2005 after a pitch against Manning Gottlieb OMD and ZenithOptimedia. Starcom Mediavest Group previously held the account but declined to repitch when ITV called a review.

Reemah Sakaan is the director of marketing and media planning at the broadcaster. ITV’s media spend is estimated at more than £8 million.

ITV has its own creative department, ITV Creative. Much of the marketing for ITV runs on its own channels, but the broadcaster also books out-of-home and digital media, as well as ads on rival channels.

News of the review comes days after ITV confirmed the appointment of Sir Peter Bazalgette as its non-executive chairman, replacing Archie Norman. Bazalgette takes over on 12 May. He was previously the chairman of Endemol, the company that created the reality show Big Brother.

ITV and Mindshare declined to comment on the review.
