Social media analysis reveals what's got attendees' tongues wagging

AUSTIN — It’s Saturday, the gang’s all here, and they are hungry. The StoryConnect @ Omnicom Content Newsroom has been scoping out this year’s hottest foods, longest lines and biggest trends, so you know what to eat, where to go, and how to fit in with the Austin foodies. Today’s report, developed exclusively for Campaign, examines the real reason everyone flocks to Austin year to year: the food (and drinks).

Where to go? That line snaking around the corner will lead you to the culinary mecca that is Chi’Lantro. Delighting palates with a surprisingly pleasing blend of Mexican fare and Korean BBQ , Chi’Lantro received more mentions than any other SouthBites food truck. Whether it’s Korean, American, or downright Texan, this year BBQ is everything. Sorry tacos.
What to drink? According to social conversations, anything and everything. Of all the crave-worthy cuisine, at the end of the day, SXSW is really more concerned about their cocktails. Of all the food-related conversations, drinks dominated with 54% share of voice, followed by breakfast with 26%. Annnnd no one cares about lunch or dinner — they’re too busy drinking!
What’s the "industry crowd" talking about? As far as Austin is concerned, the only industry you need to worry about is food trucks. And what are the food trucks worried about? Getting out of their trucks and into brick and mortar establishments. With the popularity and saturation of food trucks picking up over the past five years, chefs and mobile restauranteurs are looking for the next big thing – is it sustainability or is it the most obscure mash-up? If SX fans have a say, it’s looking good for the Oreo-Churro.
