'Not Your Summer,' created in collaboration with BBDO NY, was edited in real-time with a team of animators.
Indie band The Academic was unable to perform for a live crowd due to the pandemic, but the group stayed connected with fans in their music video "Not Your Summer."
The video, created by BBDO New York, Capitol Records and Open The Portal animation studio, used Google Slides to create and delete slides in real-time. During a live event on July 15, the four band members and a team of animators created the world’s first live animation music video on Google Slides.
The resulting animation tells a visual story loosely based on the song’s lyrics about the isolation and internal conflict experienced by many last year. The live event was later edited down into a music video, showcasing the visual story.
