Hyundai Super Bowl spot stars dozens of Ryan Reynolds

First-time sponsor goes for the funny bone in two spots from INNOCEAN.

Ryan Reynolds and bears represent serious safety threats in two Super Bowl 50 spots from car maker Hyundai. Luckily the threatened drivers have 2017 Elantras and all the attendant safety features.

In the first clip, "The Chase," a couple dashes across a forest to escape a pair of rampaging bears. They are saved when the driver talks into his smartphone to start his Elantra — which turns on immediately via the Remote Start voice-activation feature.

The second spot features a pair of women driving an Elantra through "Ryanville," a fantasy world where every man looks like Reynolds. The smitten driver is easily distracted by Reynolds doing everyday things like playing touch football and riding a bike, and nearly runs over the actor as he walks a group of dogs across the street. Lucky for Reynolds and the passengers, the Elantra’s auto-braking with pedestrian detection feature stops the car before anyone gets hurt.

Both spots were produced by INNOCEAN.

Hyundai, an official sponsor of the Super Bowl for the first time this year, will broadcast "The Chase" during the first quarter, and "Ryanville" sometime during the second quarter of the game. The auto company announced last year that it will also debut two new 60-second spots, including the "First Date" ad starring comedian Kevin Hart, during Super Bowl 50’s pre-game kickoff and pre-game show.
