HSBC: global head of marketing Amanda Rendle has left the business

HSBC's Amanda Rendle, who led marketing, customer experience, insights and proposition development across more than 50 countries has left the business, Marketing can reveal.

Rendle, who joined HSBC in 2000, became head of marketing and propositions in its global commercial banking arm in 2008. She was then promoted to global head of marketing in 2010.

HSBC said it was unable to comment on the status of employees and declined to comment on whether a replacement had been found or whether Rendle's exit was part of a restructure. However, after 15 years at the business, Marketing understands she has departed.

Rendle, who is a Fellow of The Marketing Society, spent more than two decades in agencies before she joined the bank, including at ad agency BBH, where she worked on the Levi's, Topshop and Debenhams brands. She started her career at HSBC rival Barclays.

In her role at HSBC, Rendle was involved in women's initiatives and sustainability, sponsoring the Women’s Development Programme at the bank and becoming a sustainability leader for the business.

Earlier this year, Rendle spoke to Marketing about the need for finance brands to find "purpose" at a time when HSBC itself faced in to 25,000 job cuts. 

She said: "I think from the banking crisis a lot of banking brands have had to go back and look at their purpose. They have to go back to customers and say ‘this is what we are here for and we’re going to reorchestrate the business to be for the customer."
