Hennessy is set to host a sensorial X.O and ice experience known as The Hennessy X.O Odyssey in London for two days from tomorrow (23 March).

Designed to showcase the seven characteristics of Hennessy X.O when served with ice, the 90-minute Hennessy X.O Odyssey experience will begin with a cognac tasting, and guests will then enter a mirrored room.

Each mirror within the room will fade to reveal one characteristic of the X.O product, which include sweet notes, rising heat, spicy edge, flowing flame, chocolate lull, wood crunches and infinite echo.

The room will also feature a piece of film art by director Nicolas Winding Refn, who has teamed up with Hennessy to bring X.O to life.

The experience will conclude with a session led by Ryan Chetiyawardana, founder of London bar White Lyan. He will take guests through a series of different serves in a bid to excite them about X.O and highlight the fact that it is not reserved solely for after-dinner.

The Hennessy X.O Odyssey experience is aimed at on-trade, and will be housed within Moët Hennessy UK’s headquarters.

Max Helm, brand ambassador, Hennessy UK said: "This experience is designed to disrupt and inspire our mixologist and sommelier partners. We want to reset the expectations for Hennessy and X.O in particular by showcasing the spirit in a multidimensional way to dispel the misconception of X.O being restricted to a digestif.

"In the UK, cognac is still perceived as an after-dinner drink, served in a traditional way. We want to encourage everyone to think differently and innovatively about X.O and the possibilities of this surprisingly versatile complex spirit. You only need to look at the Hennessy family and see that they have been enjoying X.O and ice for the best part of a century."

Chetiyawardana added: "Cognac has always held high repute within bartending and epicurean circles, but much of this has been focused on traditional serves. The complexity inherent within Hennessy X.O has challenged us to find innovative ways to showcase its multifaceted nuances and myriad flavours whilst retaining what is at the core of the spirit.

"Through collaboration with the Hennessy team, and the explorations in temperature arc, dilution and texture that we pioneered at White Lyan, we hope to inspire new ways to enjoy Hennessy X.O; demonstrating its famous luxuriousness but also revealing new aspects of this much loved spirit."

Hennessy created a light installation known as Crafted Light last October, as part of its 250th birthday celebrations.
