Guinness ad celebrates man who shattered music's color line

The spot by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO tells the story of producer and talent scout John Hammond

John Hammond, the music producer and talent scout credited with discovering Billie Holiday and Aretha Franklin, gets his tale told in a new ad for Guinness that will be the first 60-second spot on Instagram in the UK and Ireland. Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO created the ad, which is filmed in black and white and narrated by "Lethal Weapon" actor Danny Glover. The spot focuses on Hammond playing jazz on his radio show when the rest of New York’s stations refused and the soundtrack is "Sing Sing Sing," a song made famous by the Benny Goodman Trio — a band that Hammond helped make famous. The work was directed by Jaka Nava. The campaign will also run on TV and on Facebook.
