Grey's latest long-form Volvo film is yet another beautiful head scratcher

Atmosphere trumps story in evocative spot for the carmaker's luxury line

Josh Brolin narrates a new Volvo spot by Grey NY inspired by Walt Whitman’s 1856 poem "Song of the Open Road. The nearly 3-minute short film features ample visual metaphor, a smattering of plot and a faceless waitress easily impressed by plagiarism. The spot is the latest in a series of nontraditional longform Volvo ads with disjointed or obscured storylines, requiring a few viewings before they really begin to make sense. The ad, as well as shorter cuts, is running on TV and online through 2016 and into next year.
