An interactive map pinpointing more than 500 commercial music festivals in the UK has been unveiled by UK Music and Visit Britain.

Together, the festivals contribute £864million to the British economy and attract 7.7 million fans each year, according to UK Music.

Of that figure, 357,000 are international music fans who contribute £247million to the economy, 18% of total music tourist spending.

The map has been created as part of the 'Music is Great' tourism campaign and can be opened by clicking here (pop-up).

Jo Dipple, chief executive of UK Music said: "The map clearly shows the strength and diversity of the festivals on offer, with all tastes catered for.

He added: "We know most visitors and journalists are here for the Olympics this year, and won’t have the time to visit one of our festivals, but we would love [them] to come back in 2013."

Laurence Bresh, director of marketing at Visit Britain said: "Music is very much part of the British DNA and the fantastic Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Games showed the world the amazing variety of music that we produce here."
