Publisher HarperCollins has announced plans to open a temporary branded New York event space named the BookLab.

The HarperCollins BookLab will open in September in Lower Manhattan as part of The Howard Hughes Corporation’s new Seaport Culture District project. Alongside an 'innovative' event space, the activation will also feature a reading lounge with views of the historic Schermerhorn Row.

The BookLab will host various programmes, launch events, readings, panels, talks and receptions.

The Seaport Culture District aims to bring together cultural partners with collaborating organisations, spaces, installations and interactive opportunities in Lower Manhattan.

David Weinreb, chief executive of The Howard Hughes Corporation, said: "The Seaport Culture District adds another rich layer to the historic fabric of the Seaport District by creating a 21st century hub of ideas, activities and cultural energy.

"This continues the transformation of the Seaport District into one of New York’s premier destinations for new and one-of-a-kind cultural, culinary, fashion and entertainment experiences."
