Australian-based brand experience agency The Spaceship has worked with Microsoft's flagship store in Sydney to open the world's first Xbox Academy.

The Xbox Academy will offer visitors the chance to learn how to develop their own blockbuster game, as well as giving students and gaming fans the opportunity to take part in a range of interactive workshops taught by teachers from the Academy of Interactive Entertainment. The workshops will cover all the basics of designing, developing and programming a game.

The first class at the Academy will be held on 10 April at the Microsoft store, a 6,000sqft space located at Westfield Sydney.

Kumar Manix, founder and creative director at The Spaceship, said: "We’re thrilled to be launching Xbox Academy in Sydney, and bringing the energy and passion of Xbox to the amazing retail experience that is the flagship Microsoft Store. This is a great community initiative and builds on the Superbowl and Lego camps we ran at the Microsoft Store in 2016."

More: Earlier this month, Sony activated at SXSW festival, giving guests the chance to experience Sony's interactive exhibits. In April, Game, Multiplay and Island Records will bring Insomnia60 to Birmingham
