Gladys Knight takes the 'Midnight Train to Georgia' with replacement Pips

Samuel L. Jackson, Charles Barkley and Spike Lee reunite for Capital One's NCAA March Madness spot.

Last year, Capital One planned to air a spot starring Samuel L. Jackson, Charles Barkley and Spike Lee aboard a "Midnight Train to Georgia," along with Gladys Knight. The spot, created by the bank’s previous agency DDB, never aired because the tournament was canceled by the pandemic. However, Capital One collaborated with its new agency of record, GSD&M, to repurpose the footage into a new spot. The train scene becomes a dream sequence featuring Jackson, Barkley and Lee singing as Knight’s backup Pips. Barkley later wakes up to discover it was all a dream — but learns March Madness is headed to Indiana this year. The spot closes out with the trio decked out in matching attire singing "Goin’ Back to Indiana" by The Jackson 5.
