Turkey dinners and all the trimmings are so passée. Event takes a look at some of the more exciting culinary options on offer for the 2016 festive season.

Christmas Social

Kin London's new festive party concept comes with a warning: "This is NOT your average dry turkey, warm wine Christmas party package," it states in its promotional material. The agency has partnered with street food organisation Kerb to bring together a host of traders, from gourmet burger pop-up Mother Flipper to Mexican burrito specialist Luardo’s, at Grade II-listed venue The Square, in King's Cross. Two bars serving craft beers and cocktails, a top London DJ and 3am licence complete the offering.

Moonshine Micky's London Speakeasy

Classic American dishes such as bourbon and treacle sticky beef rib, crab claw cakes and sweet potato hash will compliment the 1920s speakeasy theme at rooftop event venue The Deck at the National Theatre. Executive chef Simon Flint has created two menus to cater for both standing receptions and seated dinners, each including an unlimited drinks package. Guests will need a secret password to get inside the wood-panelled den, where they'll be able to dress up and pose for pictures in the photo booth while sipping on Chicago Ice Tea.

Party in a Pear Tree

The O2's Building Six space will be transformed into an immersive festive experience during December. The venue has collaborated with creative event production company Theme Traders to create the land of The Pear Tree – a place where guests can "only expect the unexpected". Caterer The London Kitchen has developed a food station menu filled with foodie treats such as Christmac ‘n’ Cheese, bangers and mash, and ‘Boxing Day’ – a bubble and squeak potato cake topped with honey glazed gammon and a gooey quails egg.

Turkey is given a tropical twist on Cocobananas festive menu. The Brazilian-themed bar and restaurant in Battersea has three menus to choose from; seated, buffet-style or canapé and bowl food, featuring dishes such as Espetinho De Peru Grelhado (turkey skewers), Rocambole (rolled pork belly stuffed with wild mushrooms and wrapped in pancetta and mortadella) and Camarão Grelhado (grilled king prawns, drizzled with a cashew, chilli and lime sauce). Capoeira dancers, drummers and bongo players can all be added to enhance the carnival spirit.
