Everyone has a story in 'The New Yorker' ad

Campaign positions iconic title as the place 'Where things get interesting'

A frustrating commute turns into a serendipitous journey for a young man and his copy of The New Yorker in this spot from SS+K. He jostles and dodges his way past other people who reveal snippets of their own lives and stories as he passes, before reaching his own destination and, perhaps, a kindred spirit.

The minute-long ad was directed J.C. Chandor, best known for the 2014 movie "A Most Violent Year" and the 2011 Kevin Spacey vehicle "Margin Call." It was shot in Los Angeles’ Union Station in an attempt to widen the appeal of the ad. The spot will run on YouTube, Hulu and "The New Yorker" website and is part of a new campaign launched earlier this week that also includes print and digital ads. The campaign brands the 90-year-old publication as a place "Where things get interesting."

After several years without an agency, The New Yorker hired SS+K in 2014 after a review.
