The signed-off standard describes the knowledge, skills and behaviours that all apprentices will have achieved upon completion of an apprenticeship in the events industry. It was created by the standard development board, which comprised representatives from First Protocol, George P Johnson and Drp.
The new Trailblazers scheme aims to give non-graduates the chance to join the events industry, and will also be marketed to disadvantaged groups such as young people from the inner city and ex-offenders.
Employers will be able to implement the standard when it, as well as its assessment plan, has been approved, and a funding band has been assigned to the standard. The board will meet in early April to tackle the next stage of the process.
Nick Boles, skills minister, said: "I congratulate all the employers involved in designing the new Event Management apprenticeship standard. Through giving leading employers the power to design and deliver high quality apprenticeships we can give young people the skills our economy vitally needs. We are committed to three million apprenticeships by 2020 because apprenticeships deliver."
Mark Riches, managing director of First Protocol and chair of the initiative’s industry advisory board, added: "Approval of the standard is a key milestone and triggers the next phase of development: formulating the assessment plan that will outline how each apprentice will be assessed through and at the end of their apprenticeship."
