The singer jumped out of the purple installation to perform in front of crowds in the town’s Ancient Market. The Nectar Thank You Machine, which was produced by Nectar in collaboration with agency Clarion Communications, was designed to say "thank you" to loyalty card holders.
Passers-by could swipe their cards to win prizes from the activation, including bars of chocolate, Vue cinema tickets, magazine subscriptions, free rail travel, EasyJet flights or trips on the Eurostar. Wackier prizes included performances from a mariachi band and barbershop quartet.
Forming part of Nectar’s wider Thanks a Million promotion, the vending machine will commence a national tour to surprise shoppers in other parts of the country.
Lott said: "To see the reaction from the lady who swiped her Nectar card was brilliant, I’m sure they never bargained on me popping out to sing a thank you song for them.
"I certainly never thought I’d be coming out of a vending machine, but that was a lot of fun, if not a little surreal as it’s like a reverse Tardis, really massive on the outside and small on the inside. One thing’s for sure - it’s going to be hard to miss this when it’s touring the country this month."
