Microsoft aims for the initiative to travel one million virtual miles

Microsoft is set host its first-ever global Skype-a-Thon event for school children, an initiative that celebrates the notion of learning without borders, from 3-4 December.

The brand will give school children the chance to take ‘virtual field trips’ to all seven continents by using the communication technology. Thousands of classrooms are set to take part in the event, which aims to cover one million virtual miles over two days.

Teachers will be able to choose from a host of different activities, such as talking with a guest speaker that their class is studying, or connecting with classrooms in other countries through #MysterySkype – a geographical guessing game.

Virtual field trips on offer include learning about sea turtles and exploring cultural perspectives in Western American art.
