A one-off Land Rover Defender taxi was spotted driving around the streets of the capital recently, as part of the brand's work on a commemorative film.

The 4x4 taxi departed Solihull in the Midlands where it was built, and made its way to auction house Bonhams in central London.

The automobile was captured passing local businesses, as well as Sloane Street and Waterloo Bridge during its journey, surprising runners, bike riders and pedestrians along the way.

The film, released today (8 December) celebrates the iconic car, and also aims to promote a charity auction of the 2,000,000th Defender made, which is to be held at Bonhams New Bond Street on 16 December.

The film references a number of other modified vehicles, including a Series II Land Rover ice cream van, tailored Paul Smith Defender and the first ever Series Land Rover show car, which was first unveiled at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1948.

The Defender 2,000,000 will be on display for prospetive bidders to preview from 15-16 December.

All proceeds from the auction of the car will be donated to Land Rover’s humanitarian and conservation partners – the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Born Free Foundation.

The footage was captured on 16 and 17 November.

Land Rover created a giant sun for the reveal of its new Range Rover Evoque model last month, and positioned a number of wireframe sculptures around London in October in the lead up to its unveiling.
